"I'm very definitely a newcomer to astronomy and only joined Shropshire AS in 2006. I've always enjoyed 'stargazing' but a busy working life and family commitments prevented anything more than the occasional session with a pair of 7x50 binoculars. Although resident in Telford since 1987, retirement in 2004 gave the opportunity to explore the County. One clear March evening in 2006 I parked on The Long Mynd, got out to stretch my legs and looked up - WOW! Back home I googled 'Shropshire Astronomy' and here I am."

"I joined the SAS in 1992 and have remained a member ever since, despite moving out the county in 1997 - until recently keeping our website going. Its great to see so many members active, imaging and observing these days."

"My involvement with amateur astronomy in Shropshire goes back to 1988 when I first met members of the original SAS. Since then I've had a crack at most jobs including being Chairman from 1993 to 2007. Now I'm quite happy to sit on the back benches, take the committee meetings minutes and be amazed at the success of the fantastic society we now enjoy."

Mandy Bailey - Committee Member

"I joined the SAS in 2003, little did I think I would be chair one day! My day job is as an astronomer as I’m doing a PhD in astrophysics and so have used some of the world’s biggest telescopes. I sit on the Councils of the Royal Astronomical Society (RAS) and theSociety for Popular Astronomy (SPA) but it is helping to bring astronomy to the people of Shropshire that I find most rewarding."

Shropshire AS Webmaster - Richard Pearce

Richard Pearce - Webmaster

"I joined the Shropshire AS in 2004 after moving 'south of the border' from Morayshire in Scotland.  Despite missing seeing the Aurora Borealis, I now realise that there can be found some dark skies this far south.

I have recently taken over as Webmaster for the society in conjunction with long serving committee member, Grant Privett."
